How One Tiger Invests Our Funding

ready to read = ready to succeed

One Tiger Heritage Award & other worthile programs

ready to read = ready to succeed

  Our kids need a powerful

Lift off to Learning.

In partnership with the Massillon Public Library, we support parents of preschoolers in two ways:

1)  Workshops:

One Tiger sponsors  workshops for parents and caregivers of children 0-5 to teach them how to engage these young ones to develop their young brains for a lifetime of learning and why it's so important.

"Every Child Ready to Read"

focuses on six practices that lead to skills necessary for reading and school success.

Sing, Talk, Read, Play, Write & Rhyme -These 6 Things - led daily by parents, older siblings, grandparents or caregivers; this personal involvement with a developing child yields profound results.

STaR PoWeR!

It costs about $12 per participant for materials, though, and this is one of the areas your generous giving can really help Massillon.

2) Imagination Library:

Dolly Parton has done a wonderful service with her nonprofit foundation. Imagination Library makes it possible for a new book to be mailed to any child age 0-5 on a monthly basis.

One Tiger raises funds to help make this program available to eligible children in Massillon for FREE.

Enrollment Form Here: https://www.massillonlibrary.org/imagination-library/

Imagine the excitement of a little one receiving a new book in the mail each month!

At an annual cost of only $12.50 per child, how many kids will you bless with such a wonderful gift this year?

a book, a book, a book!

One Tiger Heritage Award & other worthile programs

ready to read = ready to succeed

One Tiger also engages our students in 1st through 8th grades by providing...

A BOOK, A BOOK, A BOOK!

1) HOME LIBRARIES!

It's important to have age appropriate books in the home to encourage reading.  One Tiger coordinates the delivery of free, gently used books to children reached by our local churches, The Legacy Project, Massillon Boys & Girls Club, our schools, and to kids in our neighborhoods via

Obie Book Boxes!

This is a perfect complement to Imagination Library and we've now delivered over 3,000 books and counting...

2) One Tiger Library Cards!

We are One Tiger when it comes to promoting literacy, and we want everyone to have a Library Card so they can enjoy the benefits of our Public Library and the incredible online resources,  TUMBLEBOOKS & hoopla...

The Reading Obie now graces the official card for our Massillon Public Library!

See our Home Page for more information and a link for a Library Card Application.

3) The Little Read!

As part of Massillon's annual BIG READ event in the spring, One Tiger provides books so that 8th grade English Language Arts students can participate in what is called The Little Read.

Your generosity makes it possible to fund all these ways to engage our students ages 6-13...

A BOOK, A BOOK, A BOOK

This is all a part of our emphasizing that

Ready to Read =

Ready to Succeed.

sponsor spotlight

From grandparents, to school teachers, to WHS alumni and to friends and family, your giving has enabled One Tiger to begin several new initiatives in addition to our Ready to Read = Ready to Succeed activities, many of which are highlighted toward the end of this page.

From time to time, we think it appropriate to shine the sponsor spotlight on those folks who have demonstrated the One Tiger Spirit in their support of our work in Massillon.

We want to especially thank Mr. Harold "Chip" Painter and Harry W. Forgan, Ph.D.

Chip Painter is a successful business executive with Midwestern Industries.  One of Massillon's major employers and long an innovative manufacturer in the screening and sizing industry, Midwestern has grown to service customers worldwide.  Mr. Painter and his wife, Lisa, a local educator, not only provided major support for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, but also made a special gift to assure that One Tiger could help shore up our elementary school's need for appropriately sized Covid-19 face coverings for our youngest students.  Thanks to the Painter's, we were able to supply 500 One Tiger logo face coverings when they were most needed.

Dr. Harry Forgan, now Professor Emeritus at the University of Miami, FL, enjoyed a long career helping young children learn to read.  His work was focused on teaching reading methods to those who would become elementary or special-education teachers themselves.  He authored books used in more than 100 universities as well as one recommended by the American Library Association, Help Your Child Learn to Read.  Recognized by the WHS Alumni Association as one of Massillon's Distinguished Citizens in 2019, Dr. Forgan said, "I loved growing up in Massillon.  All this began when I was born in Massillon City Hospital on 9/21/1942 @ 5:08pm!  The love of Tiger Town and the SPIRIT of Tigers are in my HEART FOREVER!"

I know many in Tiger Nation share this same One Tiger Spirit.  Please support our special cause in helping our "pre-alums"... Ready to Read = Ready to Succeed.
