Did you know that 35% of children in America enter the public school system unprepared to read? Of those, fewer than 12 out of 100 will be brought up to speed by remedial efforts. This means that 31% of our children could be doomed to functional illiteracy and unable to compete for meaningful job opportunities.
And, it could be worse than that... The greatest predictor of any child being incarcerated during their lifetime is the inability to read and comprehend at the third grade level by age 8, and, unfortunately, many of these students drop out of school. The numbers are staggering as 80% of all prisoners are high school dropouts. WE MUST DO BETTER!
This is our cause, raising up better prepared students and helping our kids become productive and caring citizens. BE ONE WITH US...BE ONE TIGER!
Click here and print the Enrollment Form for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. OUR KIDS DESERVE A GREAT START... We want all children ages 0-5 living in Massillon to be enrolled for FREE BOOKS!
https://www.massillonlibrary.org/imagination-library/
Our immediate goal is to provide funding to enroll all 1,764 kids 0-5 living in Massillon.
Ohio became the 3rd state to agree to fund part of the cost for Imagination Library. Normally $25 per year, we only need to raise $12.50 per child or $22,050 per year to make this program sustainable. We're now up to 1,116 kids and counting...still more to do.

I know a place, a special place where older folks support and encourage the younger folks. A place that continues to change, yet whose good character remains a constant. The character of this place teaches that everyone matters, has a chance to achieve something great and be a part of something bigger than themselves.
There are churches in most every neighborhood, great schools, a wonderful library and a fantastic museum there too. These places help the people who live there understand that the community can be even better if the older folks agree to support and encourage the younger folks and teach them initiative and accountability too.
If you were there, even for just a little while, you know there's only one Massillon. You know it's special and it's a big part of who you are. No matter who you are; rich or poor, yellow, brown, white or black, east side or west side, our one heartbeat allows us to tap into the power of being one community... One Tiger!
Now, no matter where you live, if your heart still beats with Tiger pride,
One Tiger is your opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of Massillon's young people.
Please read about our Mission, Vision and Passion, our MVP, and join our team! Massillon's never left you and this is your chance to be home again!
One Tiger works to nurture our Massillon Heritage... Supporting our children and building community.
Massillon kids work hard and are competitive. They want to win yet are encouraged to help others too. They are taught to do their best, and then taught to do even more, because that's often what makes the difference! It's no wonder Massillon is known throughout the country as the City of Champions. So, this story won't surprise anyone

They are taught to do their best, and then taught to do even more, because that's often what makes the difference! It's no wonder Massillon is known throughout the country as the City of Champions. So, this story won't surprise anyone who knows Massillon...
It's a story of friendship, excellence and caring. It's about two guys who met in 2nd grade, grew up in town and wanted what most any guy in town wants- to run out the tunnel at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, through the Tiger Swing Band and burst through the hoop as a Massillon Tiger! With thousands of fans in the stands, expectations are always high and these guys were part of teams that delivered three straight State Championships and 2 National Titles. These guys understood initiative, accountability and caring-
our Massillon Heritage.
These friends, one black and one white, one a running back and the other an offensive lineman, went on to play at Syracuse and Princeton. Both were awarded full scholarships and after graduation one was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1966 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears while the other began his career in the executive offices of one of the world's largest insurance companies in New York City.
Despite living in different parts of the country, the shared experiences of Massillon knitted them together as lifelong friends. Even today they love each other and their town, probably not unlike many others in Tiger Nation!
Over all the years, with all the success they enjoyed, they often reminisced about what makes Massillon unique- the strength of a positive community and that they had been encouraged and challenged by caring adults all along the way. They had been a part of something bigger than themselves and it made a difference their whole lives.
This feeling of pride and gratitude for their town, this One Tiger spirit, this Massillon Heritage is something they decided is worth nurturing. They called on their good friend and teammate, Joe Snively for help and from those conversations, Charlie, Bob and Joe brought One Tiger to life on
April 18, 2010.

One Tiger's Mission is to support our young people and bring people together in community! This is our shared goal and it unites and motivates us.
Everyone deserves a fair chance to succeed and it starts at birth! In fact, the ages 0-5 are the most important in setting the course for a lifetime of achievement. And because it's critical that kids read and comprehend at their proper level as they reach third grade, we try to help parents, our elementary schools and teachers succeed in that critical work.
How?
One Tiger's Vision is to rally Tiger Nation, wherever you live, to join in the work of One Tiger. Donate annually or monthly if you can. No one can do it all, but each one can do more than nothing! We have a strong loyalty to our town and the positive role it played in our lives...
Massillon kids deserve your support.
Why?
One Tiger's Passion is to help our children become productive and caring citizens. They must be prepared to compete for meaningful job opportunities.
